About Rebecca

Welcome!  I am an attorney  and I live in Port Washington with my one remaining child at home (my twins are in college) and my husband, now an adjunct professor.  He keeps the house in order with help from Rusty, our bichon mix.  I write here about various topics from the issues I face as a working mother with a stay-at-home husband to parenting issues to political issues to health issues – a mix of personal and journalistic articles that appear only here or also in various other publications. I also share my legal insights as an attorney at global law firm Dentons, where I handle a variety of cases in all stages of litigation and arbitration, as well as compliance counseling, with a focus on media and data privacy law.

Previously, I was inhouse counsel for Ion Analytics, which included 20-plus products, including Mergermarket and Debtwire, specializing in high-value content and data for financial and legal professionals. Ion Analytics is a division of fintech company Ion Group, and was formerly the Mergermarket Group.  I also served as the Global Editor in Chief of two products within Ion Analytics, the The Anti-Corruption Report (about anti-corruption laws around the world), The Cybersecurity Law Report (about data protection and data privacy). They are each online subscription legal services containing analysis, insight and guidance about the legal and compliance issues facing businesses in each area.  The subscription base includes major multi-national companies, law firms and asset managers.

I started my legal career at Dentons, representing clients in a range of matters in state and federal court, earning the firm’s pro bono prize. I had my twins my first there.  Before law school, I was a broadcast journalist at local news stations including New12 Long Island.

I am deeply involved in my community on Long Island, serving on the board of the Port Washington Democrats since its founding (as past president, vice president and secretary) and on the Town of North Hempstead Democratic Committee. I have worked on many local campaigns in various capacities. I am also on the board of the Friends of the Port Washington Library, and a past president of Port Washington’s Association for Gifted and Talented Education, and member of the Parents’ Council of the Port Washington school district. Among the charities my family and I are involved in are the Interfaith Nutrition Network and the Ice Theatre of New York.

I received my undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Harvard University in government where I was the co-Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Independent (before it had a functioning website).  I received my law degree from Columbia University and I hold Certified Privacy Professional designation from the International Association of Privacy Professionals.  I grew up on Long Island with my 5 younger siblings, where we spent a lot of time at ice skating rinks.
